History
Founded by seven Magnavox employees, we began as Magnavox Employees Federal Credit Union in Fort Wayne, Indiana. We were established to provide low-cost loans and encourage systematic savings. By the 1970s, the credit union operated three in-plant branches located in other Magnavox facilities. From these beginnings, the credit union evolved into a national branching network.
In 1975, the North American Philips Corporation acquired the Magnavox Company. To represent our new sponsor company, we changed our name to North American Philips Federal Credit Union and continued to serve all of our members in their facilities. When North American Philips changed their name several years later to Philips Corporation, we followed suit and changed our name to Philips Federal Credit Union.
After more than 50 years of being affiliated with a sponsor company, in 2006, the credit union was renamed to reflect who we are today: Partners 1st Federal Credit Union. With this non-affiliated name change, we can expand into other companies and serve more communities.
With every name change, we never lost sight of what’s important: you and your community. We’ve always been passionate about serving our members’ best interests and finding solutions to their unique needs. One member at a time, our once little credit union works hard to be Part of your Community so we can be Part of your Tomorrow.
